Millennials are the most heavily marketed to generation in history. They are bombarded each day with TV, Radio, Social Media, Print and now Mobile Advertising. In the middle of all this noise, how do you get your message to stick with millennials? How do we go about marketing to millennials?
What is a Millennial?
We are going with the definition from McCrindle research in Australia. A Millennial is anyone born between 1980 and 1994. There are lots of people who say it goes earlier than that, even as far back as 1976 and if you want to see how many definitions there are, check out this Wikipedia page.
Millennials Date and Age Ranges
These are our tips for marketing to millennials;
Mobile
Millennials are on the move and you need to reach them. Mobile penetration is at over 100% nowadays and everyone carries their mobile with them at all times. Consider getting permission from your millennials to send them an SMS Marketing message and then send timely and appropriate offers to them once a month or every six weeks.
Short and Sweet
With so much going on in the world today and vying for our attention, we sometimes feel a little overwhelmed. For marketers, keep your marketing short, simple and concise so it registers with your potential customers. With 98% of text messages opened and read, consider this medium to target your millennials customer base.
Personalized
Millennials are used to good service, they expect it. And why shouldn’t they. Your advertisement should be personal to their preferences. If they are a previous customer of yours and you know what segment of your product line they have previously purchased, send them offers on this or similar lines. That way the customer knows you are thinking about their needs and you value their opinions, tastes and choices.
